Breakthrough In Cerebral Malaria: New Study Shows How Malaria Parasite Damages The Brain

Researchers have uncovered how the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum damages the blood-brain barrier, leading to severe cerebral malaria in children. Using a lab-grown 3D model of the BBB, they identified mechanisms of barrier leakage and inflammation. The study also suggests that the approved drug Ruxolitinib could reduce brain damage, offering hope for new therapeutic strategies.
