The risk of tobacco is that the damage it does is frequently delayed and accumulative and largely preventable. The World Health Organization reports that tobacco kills more than 8 million people worldwide every year, including more than 1 million deaths due to second-hand smoke exposure. India loses over 1.3 million lives per year to tobacco alone.
